Ovuplant® – for more predictable ovulation in brood mares
Ovuplant® is the latest addition to Dechra Veterinary Products’ equine pharmaceutical range.
Ovuplant is a biocompatible sustained release implant that contains the active ingredient deslorelin, a GnRH analogue. Through the increased secretion of the luteinizing hormone (LH), Ovuplant induces precise timing of ovulation in brood mares. It is indicated for the induction of ovulation in oestrus mares with a > 30 mm developing follicle* and studies have shown that up to 95% of mares ovulate within 36-48 hours **
Ovuplant is very easy to use. The pre-loaded implant is simply placed subcutaneously in the neck of the mare midway between head and shoulder.
As timing of ovulation can be better predicted;
- Coverings and artificial insemination can be better planned to occur at a time that is more convenient to owners and vets.
- There is reduced need for ultrasound and examinations
- Fewer cross coverings are required to achieve pregnancy
- Ovulation can be planned to take place close to the time of insemination for chilled and frozen semen
